Strategic site 4: Central Leisure Quarter

Central Leisure Quarter

Central Leisure Quarter

Location: Central Blackpool, adjacent to Blackpool Promenade

Key Stakeholder: Blackpool Council

Summary: The site of the former Central Station, the proposed Central Leisure Quarter is currently home to Blackpool's Central Car Park, as well as Blackpool's main Police Station and Magistrates Court. The outlined Central Leisure Quarter has been a potential development site since the removal of the railway station in the 1960s, but recent developments in the town's visitor offer have allowed plans to push ahead to transform the area into a mixed-used leisure development that will include attractions, retail and dining in a high quality environment.

Opportunities: Initial opportunities lie around the physical development of the site, creating the built environment and infrastructure to support the leisure industry. Once development is underway, opportunities will present themselves to retailers, restaurateurs and attraction operators looking to occupy the development, creating a flagship leisure destination generating millions of primary-focus visits to the area.
